Vedur / Little Vedur – Colors of Iceland

The two patterns are in the same post because it is a mother and daughter duo. Even inspiration for the two sweaters but different designs for the shape.
vedur_1_pt Photo shooting at Godafoss, Iceland for the project Colors of IcelandQu’est-ce qui m’a inspiré ce patron ?

nuages_ptWhat inspired me this pattern? Weather of course.

And the colors are the colors of the weather: light blue, yellow of the sun, dark gray of stormy clouds, white of fleecy clouds.

And what about construction? The theme is Iceland. I couldn’t pass over the typical construction of the Iceland sweaters: Lopapeysa. Thus this patterns are inspired by these Icelandic sweaters and I used the circular yoke construction to design them.

Richter sweater – Colors of Iceland

Fire and earth …

These are the themes that have inspired me to do a garment for my teen boy.

There’s no much to say except that fashion for teen is simple: hoodie and it’s all … so I had to design a hoodie.

And to add a little touch of fun to this hoodie and because Iceland is a country in a constant movement, some seismic waves in the back and on the arms.

Bláa Lónið Sweater – Colors of Iceland

blaa_lonid_3_ptVoici la petite histoire de ce pull / Here is the short story of this pattern.

I wanted a cozy, warm and confortable DK sweater in which you can curl up when it is time to rest.
And one of the best way to rest in Iceland is to take hot baths. Iceland  being a volcanic country, it is not uncommon to find hot tubs, naturally heated pools, streams or small hot water lagoons.
And when you talk about hot water, rest and relaxation, you think immediately about the Blue Lagoon (Bláa Lónið in Icelandic).

The mineral-laden water is turbid white with green and blue highlights.

IMG_0463The roots of inspiration were here so I contacted Sophie for a new color and she created Blue Lagoon color for this cozy sweater. Mission accomplished.

Thanks to brioche stitch the cowl is large and cozy. This famous stitch was used to make the Fishermen’s sweaters in Holland. The other name of brioche stitch is Fisherman Rib.
And for a touch of originality, this sweater is asymmetrical and emphasizes one hip.

Breiðárlón cardigan – Colors of Iceland

breidarlon_5_pt Voici la petite histoire de ce cardigan / Here is the short story of this pattern.

This pattern wasn’t planned in the beginning of the project. But when I saw the color Nordic Trail Lilou, I knew that this color had its place in the ebook.

Because this color, it is this for me:

This pictures are taken in the early hours when we was alone on the black sand beach …. we are awakened by some artic tern. There was no touris. Nobody near the lagoon.

This photoshoot was made near Jökulsárlón. Breiðárlón is more a lake than a lagoon and it i slocated a few hundred meters from Jökulsárlón.

For the anecdote, after being awakened, I prepared the breakfeast, the children were going outside and were sitted along the mouth of the lagoon. And suddenly, there were a lot of seals near front of them ! …. It is THE souvenir of our roadtrip for them.

It is a raglan top down.

The CO is a provisional crochet cast-on.

You have a panel of lace on the back, at the bottom, at the neck and along the fronts.

After knitting almost the entire body, you will use German Short Rows to shape the bottom of this cardigan.

The neckband and the collar are picked up and knitted perpendicular to the body.

For the rest, I let you the pleasure to discover it ….

Colors of Iceland / Couleurs d’Islande

We also had to offer an intense, magical and special. The photo shoot was therefore organized in Iceland when we visited this
summer.
I hope you have as much fun knitting these pieces as I’ve enjoyed creating them.
